About Us
THE ANSELL COMMUNITY CENTRE (ACC) is a private company limited by guarantee (Reg. no. 05334314) and also has charitable status (Charity no. 1111332). The ACC has seven directors and, with its other members, encompasses a wide range of interests including community, church, local authority, professional, business and retired.
THE ANSELL CENTRE comprising hall, ancillary rooms, kitchen and toilets, is in Hadleigh, Suffolk and is currently owned and run by the United Reformed Church for its own and community use. However, it is expensive to maintain and the Church is currently negotiating a lease with the ACC whereby the latter takes responsibility for the building and actively uses it for community purposes. The ACC was actually formed to take this option forward. It was decided to call the hall "The Ansell Centre" as John Ansell originally built the hall as a school for the children of Hadleigh and subsequently gave the hall to the URC church (see history page).
ACC'S PROPOSED OPERATION is to
- Provide its facilities to community groups.
- Provide activities for sectors of the community which are under provided for – particularly in the initial stages, a luncheon/social club for old people who are otherwise isolated from society.
- Revamp and maintain the buildings to a good standard, with the assistance of external funding.
- Sponsor poorer/under funded community groups who would otherwise be unable to hire the Hall.
